The YMCA Kids Marathon is a great way to stay active and have fun! Here’s how it works: kids complete 25.2 miles with friends and family now through April 18. They don’t just have to run, they can walk, hop, skip, roller blade or swim their way there–anything that keeps them moving.
Then, on April 18, we’ll all come together to run the final mile. The young marathoners will begin at Elmwood Park, thread through the streets of downtown Roanoke, and finish at the Kirk Family YMCA. YMCA staff and volunteers will be on hand race day to guide and cheer on the marathoners through the closed streets in downtown Roanoke. Super hero costumes are encouraged.
Kids not only get to say they completed a marathon, they get cool stuff, including a Kids Marathon race shirt, a finisher’s medal, a race number, goodie bag and milestone rewards for completing and tracking their miles using our handy-dandy tracking sheet that you can download here. The first 300 kids to register will also get a pedometer.
For more information or tips for building a team — call the YMCA’s Karen Wilbourne at (540) 342-9622 (x3133).
Groups: Families, Boy and Girl Scout Troops, youth groups and schools are encouraged to join as teams.
