The Roanoke Valley Chapter of the FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway will be hosting four Blue Ridge Parkway Saturday clean-ups to get our beautiful parkway spruced up for marathon day. If you live in the region and want to chip in to help make our city beautiful, the details are listed below.
- Saturday, March 25th:
9am-Noon
Meet at Gum Spring Overlook and fan out on Roanoke Mountain – John Carlin is scheduled to videotape a marathon promo featuring this Saturday’s FBRP volunteers! - Saturday, April 1st:
9am-Noon
Meet at Chestnut Ridge Overlook and fan out along Mill Mountain Parkway – Patrick Henry Honor Society and Hidden Valley students will join us! - Saturday, April 8th:
9am-Noon
Meet at the JP Fishburn and Mill Mountain Parkway junction and fan out along J.P. Fishburn – Cheer on the Mountain Junkies trail runners! - Saturday, April 15th:
9am-Noon
Tentative Meet at Chestnut Ridge Overlook for a final sweep from J.P. Fishburn, along Mill Mountain Parkway and around Roanoke Mountain
What to bring?
Wear comfortable clothes, long pants, closed-toe shoes, work gloves and bug spray. Bring water and snack. Trash bags, water, snacks, spare gloves and some trash grabbers will be supplied.
Other Details:
Volunteering on the parkway is a fun group activity – with family and friends. It’s for a good cause – beautifying our beloved Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s a source of personal and community pride. It’s great exercise too!
It takes a community to host the Blue Ridge Marathon, an event that draws visitors from near and far and showcases the best of Roanoke. Volunteers with the Roanoke Valley Chapter of Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway make sure our section of the Blue Ridge Parkway is standing tall!
